Vehicle Finance Calculator South Africa
See the monthly number, then look at what the deposit and balloon do to the full cost.
Calculator inputs
- Vehicle price
- Deposit
- Balloon payment — An amount due at the end of the term.
- Annual interest rate
- Loan term
How the calculator works
The vehicle finance estimate subtracts your deposit, models the interest-bearing amount over the chosen term, and optionally includes a balloon payment due at the end. Use the monthly result as one line in a full ownership budget.
Example calculation
Compare a R380,000 vehicle with a R40,000 deposit and with no deposit. Then remove the balloon to see the difference between a lower monthly payment and the amount still due later.
Frequently asked questions
- Does a balloon payment make a car cheaper?
- It can reduce the monthly repayment, but it does not remove the amount due at the end. Compare total repaid and your plan for the balloon.
- What should I include beyond the finance repayment?
- Add insurance, fuel, maintenance, licence costs, tyres, and a buffer for repairs to your monthly car budget.
- How much vehicle finance can I afford in South Africa?
- Start with a payment that leaves room for housing, food, insurance, fuel, maintenance, and savings. A lender's maximum approval is not the same as a comfortable budget.
- Should I choose a deposit or a balloon payment?
- A deposit reduces the amount financed immediately. A balloon may lower monthly payments but creates a large final obligation, so compare the total cost and your exit plan.
